Prof Taufiq Asyhari is a Professor of Data Science at Monash University, Indonesia and holds Visiting Professorship of Future Communication Systems at Birmingham City University, UK. He received the PhD degree in Information Engineering from the University of Cambridge, UK in 2012, and B.Eng. (with Hons.) degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 2007.
He has developed an international reputation for his research work in information theory, communications, signal processing, smart sensing and machine learning for next generation cyber-physical systems as evidenced by publication of 80 peer-reviewed articles in the world-leading journals and conferences. He has a track record of winning and leading competitive research grants/fellowships and awards, most notably an EPSRC Global Challenge Grant, IEEE–EURASIP Best Paper Award, NSC Taiwan Grant, ERCIM Alain Bensoussan Fellowship and Cambridge Trust PhD Research Scholarship.
He has served as the Research Lead for the £10M 5G Connected Forest (2020-2023), looking at how 5G communications can realize the wireless services of high-definition contents in forestry areas through smart remote sensing. Prof Asyhari has served as Academic Editor of PeerJ Computer Science, Topic Editor of Sensors and Associate Editor of IEEE Access (Internet of Things, Machine Learning and 5G Networks), in addition to his committee involvement in numerous leading international academic conferences.
He has also served as the Board of Experts in Environmental Computing at Wallacea Research Centre for Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Change and has previously held Full-Time/Visiting Positions with Coventry University, UK and Cranfield University, UK. National Chiao Tung University Taiwan, Nokia Bell Laboratories, and the University of Stuttgart, Germany. Prof Asyhari is a Senior Member of IEEE (Information Theory Society) and is affiliated with Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences (INI), Cambridge.
